Sad but they were far too expensive. Even their so-called sales/late deals were often more expensive than holidays booked independently. A friend had paid a £500 deposit with the balance due last Friday. He asked if they could delay the final payment until after these talks and was told: “either pay or lose the holiday”. The CEO says he’s profoundly sorry etc, but these firms should not be allowed to hold people to ransom and trade until the last minute when they’re in this state. Thousands of people who have booked but have yet to travel will lose money because they will probably be at the bottom of the list of creditors. Disgraceful. Forgetting about the moral responsibility and just looking at the financial aspect, flying 150k people home will not be cheap plus benefits for the 9000 direct employees laid off until they find other work plus supporting companies who will lay people off. £200million sound cheap!
