 The Hamilton Papers are part of the Library’s Manuscript Division, which also holds the papers of 23 U.S. presidents ranging from George Washington to Calvin Coolidge, along with many other figures who have made history. Second Avenue, based in Rochester, NY, will create an app that will place the user in the time and social context of the pre-19th Amendment United States. Content used will focus on primary sources related to the struggle for women’s suffrage, as well as the general prevailing social and political attitudes of the time period roughly between 1890 and 1920.  The digitization of the Gandhara Scroll reflects advancement toward a goal in the Library’s new user-centered strategic plan to expand access, making unique collections, experts, and services available when, where, and how users need them. The Asian Division, founded in 1928, currently has custody of more than 4 million physical items in over 130 different Asian languages found in seven collections: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Tibetan. In the new online feature, the Veterans History Project explores the personal stories of 15 World War II veterans and what the end of the war meant for them. Most of these oral histories are being featured online for the first time. Among the featured stories is that of Jerome Yellin, a fighter pilot with the 78th Fighter Squadron. At the time of the Japanese surrender, Yellin was completing his 19th mission over Japan; he landed on Iwo Jima to find out the war had already been over for three hours. The loss of so many comrades in battle — 16 from his squadron in total — took a toll on Yellin, and he battled post-traumatic stress disorder following the end of the war.
