 Who doesn't like cheap things that are expensive. People who couldn't afford will buy it if offered at a cheaper price lol . Stealing is a bad thing to do though but in this covid times soo many people are trying to survive in any means they can.  I had this, was convinced it was covid but all my results were negative. Hardly any sleep because I was up coughing all night. Lasted two weeks. I also lost my voice, and had to strain to make a sound! Hope nobody else gets this - it sucked!  The Poet Laureate suggests authors to read in the literary series, plans other special literary events during the reading season, and usually introduces the programs. You've heard of playing cards, baseball cards, even Beatle cards. Now there are Knowledge Cards, celebrating eminent people, available in four subject categories: Great African Americans, Women Who Dare, American Writers, and Women Writers. The Library of Congress and Pomegranate Publications are introducing these cards as part of a cooperative agreement to make the Library's collections more widely available in a variety of educational formats. Knowledge Cards are arranged in decks of 48 cards. Each card features a portrait photograph or illustration on one side, and a brief biography, highlighting that person's achievements, on the other side.   This annual series of public poetry and fiction readings, lectures, symposia, and occasional dramatic performances began in the 1940s and has been almost exclusively supported since 1951 by a gift from the late Gertrude Clarke Whittall, who wanted to bring the enjoyment and appreciation of good literature to a larger audience. The Poetry and Literature Center, which administers the series, is also the home of the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry, a position that has existed since 1936, when the late philanthropist Archer M. Huntington endowed the Chair of Poetry at the Library of Congress. "New Perspectives on Civil War Military Leadership" is the topic of a presentation at the Library of Congress at noon, Thursday, Feb. 27, by historian Thomas B. Buell, the author of The Warrior Generals: Combat Leadership in the Civil War (Crown, 1997). Sponsored by the Center for the Book and open to the public, Mr. Buell's talk will take place in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the James Madison Memorial Building. It is part of the center's "Books & Beyond" series, which features authors of recent books that have a particular relevance to the Library's programs or collections. "This is the first author we've featured who has drawn on the Library's remarkable resources for the study of the Civil War," said Center for the Book Director John Y. Cole. Buy it here

 Each day, users can visit the site to learn about the history of the day and to view or hear Library materials relating to that day. Previous offerings will be archived for reference. American Memory is an initiative of the National Digital Library Program of the Library of Congress that aims to make millions of the nation's most important American history materials freely available on the Internet. The nearly 400,000 items offered so far include portraits of the presidents and first ladies, documents relating to slavery and the civil rights movement, early short films by Thomas Edison and selected notebooks of Walt Whitman. The National Film Registry Tour continues in its effort to reach all 50 states with the announcement of three new sites by James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress.  Currently, he is working on books on the Oregon Trail and the presidency of Richard Nixon. The Goldman Memorial Lecture series is made possible by a gift from the estate of the late Eric F. Goldman, who taught at Princeton University. Each year an individual is selected on the basis of his or her high achievement and literary skill to deliver a lecture at the Library of Congress on a significant issue facing American democracy. Beginning April 1, the Library will offer "Today in History" from its American Memory home page of on-line collections from the Library of Congress. For example, April 1 provides links to Life History Manuscripts, which includes memories of April Fools' Day before the turn of the century. His theories of the violent origin of civilization and his understanding of the function of religion, art and science in contemporary society will be explored.   The project will create audio and video archives of Americans of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life reading aloud their favorite poems. The Favorite Poem Project is rooted in Mr. Pinsky's belief that poetry is meant to be read aloud. "The archives will be a record at the end of the millennium of what we choose and what we do with our voices and faces, when asked to say aloud a poem that we love," said Mr. Pinsky, who was appointed Poet Laureate in 1997 by Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. The Favorite Poem Project's two long-term goals are to promote reading and appreciation of poetry and to encourage the teaching of poetry in schools nationwide.  By stimulating a dialogue among the technology experts, content providers and users of digital materials, the Library hopes to establish a solid foundation for sharing findings associated with building, using and sustaining digital libraries. The National Digital Library Program will make millions of items relating to American history freely available on the Internet by the year 2000, the Library's 200th anniversary. Among the current collections available are "The George Washington Papers," "African American Perspectives," "Votes for Women Suffrage Pictures," "Early Motion Pictures" and "Panoramic Maps." More than 40 million transactions monthly are handled by the Library's Internet services.  This unparalleled collection, first made available to the public in 1947, contains more than 15,000 items, including such treasures as Lincoln's drafts of the Emancipation Proclamation, his first inaugural address and letters about political and domestic troubles. Additional treasures of Lincolniana came to the Library in 1950 through the generosity of Alfred Whital Stern of Chicago. Highlights of the more than 11,000 items in this collection include copies of three speeches delivered by Lincoln during his term as a U.S. representative from Illinois, Lincoln's scrapbook documenting his debates with Stephen A. Douglas during the Illinois senatorial campaign of 1858, and materials relating to the 1860 presidential election, his assassination and funeral.  This year the number of countries participating in the application process increased to 26, and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Haiti, Mongolia and Uzbekistan participated for the first time. Bosnia and Kazakhstan have participated before, but this will be the first year that they will be sending participants to the program. Prospective candidates submitted their applications to their local Soros Foundation offices in September. The local offices administered Teachers of English as a Foreign Language examinations to test the applicants' knowledge of English and conducted interviews with the applicants. Sixty-eight applications were forwarded to the Library of Congress for final selection. In 1983 he joined the Center for Law in the Public Interest, a noted public interest law firm in California, and served for five years as supervising attorney for civil rights litigation. In 1988 he rejoined LDF. Mr. Lee also served as an adjunct professor of political science at Fordham University, and as counsel to the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. In addition to the keynote address, an exhibition and several public events are planned at the Library throughout May to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
